The DoD is looking for a logistics support tool that can generate realistic courses of action for commanders in dynamic, contested, and degraded environments, preferably utilizing artificial intelligence or machine learning.
Problem
To effectively project and sustain forces across vast contested distances, the DOD used a network of organizations, units, and agencies, often called the Joint Logistics Enterprise, which “forms the basis of DoD’s ability to protect its interests at home and abroad.“ The DOD says that structure is now outdated and too slow, and needs to shift from “reactive processes to a predictive and proactive posture.” As a result, the DoD is now seeking a logistics support tool that can generate realistic courses of action with AI and other tools.
Opportunity
The DOD is looking for a decision support solution to drive logistics planning and execution. Preference will be given to submissions that can demonstrate AI-enabled planning tools that support the storage, tracking, and distribution of things like munitions, fuel, medical equipment, spare parts, and even casualties and patients. The solution should:
Be Holistic — Enable commanders to “visualize, direct, and synchronize sustainment operations” though a holistic understanding of the operational environment.
Identify Risks — Identify risks and recommend adaptive solutions to prevent disruptions or logistics shortfalls.
Leverage AI — Leverage agentic workflows to reason and adapt to real-time data, ensure AI-generated content aligns with commander’s intent, and allow human planners to effectively direct the system.
Be Transparent — Be intuitive to use and operate, and be supported by algorithms that are rigorous and verifiable.
